The designer and Project Runway judge has long been an advocate of inclusivity in the world of style, with clients including Oprah Winfrey, Lena Dunham and Rihanna.
With a push for more diversity in the industry, and plus-size models like Ashley Graham and Candice Huffine making waves, Posen is pleased to see that clothes are becoming more accessible for everyone.
„To me, that’s what’s exciting about being a designer,“ he told TODAY Style. „Being able to bring lots of different women with different backgrounds into your clothing. That’s the excitement of being able to create something that has the ability to work on a lot of bodies.
„I think fashion, for a long time, relied on the marketing tool of the unachievable, and it’s a bunch of bogus. Today it has to be about authenticity. The way I cut my clothing… It is about empowerment and loving the curves of the body.“
Noting he believes all bodies are “beautiful”, which is what makes the world exciting, Posen always aims to reach a larger public with his creations.
His rise to fame, and his struggles to reach the top, have all been captured in his new documentary film House of Z, which is available to rent on Vogue.com from 6 September (17).
„It’s always hard to watch yourself. I always have to take a deep breath each week when watching Project Runway,“ he admitted.
„I hope that my experience, the good sides, the bad sides… Is an example for young people who do feel like an outsider, to feel confident in who they are.“Read more at:blue formal dresses | pink formal dresses
