The son of Zeus, Hercules is known as the Prince of Power and there’s a good reason for that. Hercules is low key one of the strongest Avengers of them all and doesn’t really get a lot of credit for being as powerful as he is. This probably has a lot to do with his attitude- he’s a fun-loving guy who doesn’t take much seriously.
While he doesn’t wield massive energies, he is definitely stronger than Thanos and has a lot of experience in hand to hand combat. He’s also been fighting gods and monsters for his millennia-long existence, so Thanos shouldn’t be too much of a problem for him.
While Hercules’s physical power is pretty much unparalleled, it’s pretty much all he has. Hercules is known to run into battle without thinking and that’s not something that works very well against Thanos. Thanos is just way too powerful that sort of thing.
So, while Hercules would definitely be able to do a lot of damage quickly, his lack of planning and limited power set are going to cost him. If Thanos didn’t have his amazing energy manipulating abilities, Hercules would pretty easily beat him. Unfortunately for Herc, Thanos can use those powers to even up the odds.
