Berlin, January 03, 2014 – With the new version 4.2 of the certified IT security solution, ViPNet VPN, the internationally active high-security specialist, Infotecs GmbH, announces numerous improvements in terms of user-friendliness. In addition, the encryption solution appears under the new name, ViPNet VPN, effective immediately.
The new version 4.2 of the VPN software from Infotecs GmbH is now available. Moreover, the Berlin-based high-security specialists have announced important changes regarding their product range. The most important optimization is the renaming of the ViPNet OFFICE VPN software. The word “OFFICE” isn’t used anymore, and Infotecs now refers to the solution as ViPNet VPN. In addition, now the IT security provider’s solutions contain an unlimited number of tunneled connections. This means that, in the future, there will be no limit to the number of IP addresses on the same network that can be accessed via a ViPNet coordinator.
From a simplified user interface, to support for certain Samsung devices, to easier and faster configuration – ViPNet VPN 4.2 offers numerous innovations, which are briefly described below.
ViPNet VPN – the New Name of the Encryption Solution
In addition to renaming the ViPNet VPN software suite, the following programs also receive a new designation:
- ViPNet Manager → ViPNet Network Manager
- ViPNet Security Gateway → ViPNet Coordinator HW/VA
- ViPNet to Go → ViPNet ThinClient
In addition to the classic coordinator functionality, the ViPNet Coordinator HW/VA component is a universal security gateway, with which iOS and Android devices can be linked to a ViPNet VPN with their built-in IPSec client. With this new product, Infotecs’ sales partners get an operating system and a ViPNet coordinator two-in-one and a choice of compatible hardware to sell the product with.
The ViPNet Coordinator HW/VA product can be purchased as a hardware and software appliance (HW) or as a virtual appliance (VA). The choice of buying the ViPNet Coordinator software for Windows remains as well.
ViPNet Coordinator HW/VA supports WLAN, 3/4G, Bluetooth, and offers additional services, such as a proxy server, virus protection, and a secure VoIP server. Therefore, PoS, IP cameras, sensors, and controllers in the areas of telehealth, energy, and industry can be secured.
Significantly Extended Test Version
Another important change is an advanced test version of ViPNet VPN. Instead of only one coordinator and 2 clients, prospective customers now get 2 coordinators (Windows and/or appliance-based) and a total of 10 clients (Windows/Mac OS/Android/ThinClient). Due to this, IT specialists can test the encryption solution in greater scope with all possible network scenarios. The programs ViPNet Policy Manager, ViPNet Business Mail, and ViPNet SafeDisk-V can also be used. With ViPNet StateWatcher, IT specialists can monitor up to 10 nodes in the test version.
ViPNet VPN Supports Samsung Devices
The ViPNet VPN security solution supports certain end devices from Samsung. These include Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones and Galaxy Tab 3 (8.0) and Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012) tablet PCs running Android 4.1-4.2 (Jelly Bean).
Increased User-friendliness for End Users and Administrators
Users of the ViPNet Client software can look forward to a significantly simplified user interface. The advanced options remain hidden so that misconfiguration is avoided. If you still need to fine-tune the program, log on as an administrator to display all features.
The new hybrid clients establish connection over the HTTPS protocol. This is required in exceptional cases, for example, for Internet access via guest networks, in which the forwarding of UDP traffic is not allowed.
Simplification of ViPNet host settings results in easier and faster configuration for administrators. For this purpose, the ‘Access Addresses’ and ‘Keys’ tabs were introduced. Another new advantage is easier integration of a corporate DNS server in ViPNet Network Manager.
The existing security level of the VPN endpoints is retained in that Windows Firewall remains enabled. The ViPNet software still includes a software firewall, so you can use it when necessary to meet higher security requirements.
