The national Ukrainian TV Channel “1+1” conducted „Nationwide Internet Referendum“, which clearly showed the support of Ukrainian people the idea of EU and NATO membership.
Internet users were able to speak on three issues: NATO membership, EU integration and enforcing the law about two official languages – Russian and Ukrainian – in Ukraine.
Thus, the majority of respondents expressed the support for Ukraine’s membership in NATO (about 80 thousand). Negative to the relevant question answered less than 35 thousand respondents. Besides that, Ukrainians strongly supported the idea of Ukraine applying for EU membership. More than 88 thousand people said „Yes“ to it, representing 77 % of respondents. Less definite turned out to be the vote on the language issue. The idea of two official languages in Ukraine was supported by less than 49 thousand respondents (43%), negative opinion on that expressed slightly more respondents – 65 thousand people, which is under 57%. Note that the survey involved more than 100 thousand people. Only Internet users located in Ukraine could vote. That was done in order to eliminate risk of internet-bots voting.
At least as Information: Cable operators located in Crimea were pressed to turn off most of the Ukrainian channels during the armored attack on their office. This information was released from a reliable source of „1+1“ TV channel. Cable operators were threatened with weapons and under the pressure were forced to disable the broadcasting of Ukrainian channels. Earlier on March 6, the self-proclaimed administration of Crimea has shut down the broadcasting of „1+1“, and its broadcasting frequency was taken by the Russian TV channel „Channel One Russia“. But until yesterday channel „1+1“ was still available through cable networks.
