South Africa is pumps country

South Africa has developed such expertise in pump technology that
it has become one of the world’s leading innovators in this field
and, as a result, a large exporter of sophisticated pump solutions
to markets worldwide.

„Our country has become ‚pumps country‘ due to the wide diversity
of needs in this region – from mining and petrochemicals to
boreholes and swimming pools, and we have had to cope with some
unique requirements which have turned into industry-leading
solutions,“ says Exhibitiocone crusher design and operationn Management Services director John
Thomson.

He also raises the valid question that, „Everyone knows vaguely
what pumps are used for, but how many people, even from the
industry, stothe processes of making powderp and evaluate market requirements on a
country-tocountry basis?“ Local mining and agricultural sectors
have been the main drivers of the industry.

At deep-level mines, the massive pumping equlime stone crusher old in indiaipment installed to
pump out water are critical to day-to-day operations, while the
country’s semi-arid climate has made extensive irrigation a
necessity in the agricultural sector with a massive market for
submersible pumpjaw crusher used in netherlands.

Many of these pumps have to be specially designed to cope with
extensive grit and sand suspended in the water, while others have
to be solar powered to operate in terrain where it is difficult to

„The market for agricultural pumps for irrigation and crop
handling, has always been significant, now, with the massive need
for improved sewage and access to water in the remote rural
communities, the country’s need for pumps is growing apace,“ states
Thomson.

Massive markets for pumps of all sizes and types also exist in the
sugar, beverages, breweries, paper and pulp and petrochemical
industries.

There are also growing niche markets for pumps in areas such as
wine production and fishing.

‚These all have different specialised needs, which, in many cases,
such as in the case of Sasol’s oil-from-coal process, are being met
by local development,“ says Thomson.

„For this reason, it is not surprising that specialist
international events, such as the Pumps, Valves and Pipes Africa
exhibition, attract decision-making, high-quality audiences,“ he
maintains.

At last year’s exhibition, 76% of visitors were able to make or
influence purchasing decisions.
