Production of large-diameter pipes
Tenaris Confab placed an order on one 18-MN U-press with Siempelkamp for the works in Pindamonhangaba in the Brazilian Federal State of São Paulo. It will go on line together with the O-press that had been ordered shortly before. With a new control system it is featured by particular energy efficiency.
On the press U-cannings for longitudinal seam-welded pipeline pipes with diameters of 12 ¾ to 48″ will be manufactured. This press will be part of a press line comprising an existing Crimping-press, the new U-ing and the new 500-MN O-ing press, Tenaris already ordered in March 2011.
An old 9-MN press dating back to the seventies and no longer meeting with the requirements of new products that Tenaris has included in the range of products is replaced by the new U-press. Instead of a modernization of the old press Tenaris decided in favors of a new installation to utilize modern technology not only for sheet forming in the O-press, but also for the upstream U-press.
Due to the new press Tenaris is able to produce thicker-walled pipes of higher steel grades in the future thus strengthening its position in the premium league of pipe manufacturers.
A particular feature of the Tenaris U-press is its exceptionally high energy efficiency which means that Siempelkamp accommodates with the pronounced goal of the customer to save the environment due to reduction of power consumption. Pumps are provided with servo-and speed-controlled drives. The advantage of this system compared to conventional solutions is that only as much energy as actually required is applied at any time.
Due to the innovative press control Siempelkamp achieves maximum operating reliability and resilience: By means of the control and the fully hydraulic system an exact parallel guiding of the bending sword is ensured under any operating condition. The counter-holding force is applied through an active hydraulic counterbeam; the mechanical stoppers formerly used are not applied.
The drive systems are directly arranged at the press, the lines to the related loads are short so that additionally building outlay is reduced.
Due to the automated tool change and automatic clamping system for tool segments changeover times are reduced.
Included in the scope of supply of the presses is the C-U-O application software developed by Siempelkamp by means of which the complete forming process can be simulated and the optimum setting parameters for the forming line and the expander can be determined.
Since the complete line has been realized by Siempelkamp in the works of Krefeld and supplies all have come from one source the delivery period is short: Commissioning of the U-press is scheduled for December 2012.
