Review of trade fair of the chemical industry
Every third year, Frankfurt is the center of the world. At least for the chemical industry: engineers meet at the ACHEMA trade fair to take a closer look at new products, learn about the latest trends and network. SAMCON, manufacturer of explosion proof cameras, was present with a wide range of explosion-proof CCTV systems, video servers and a new video management system.
Two new products were launched at the fair. The ExCam IP, a digital video camera for use in hazardous areas, and SAMCONtrol, a fully browser based video management system.
Launch of explosion proof CCTV network camera ExCam IP
ExCam IP is a full-fledged network camera for use in rough industrial environments and explosion risk zones. One of the main advantages of the camera is that the video streams can be directly controlled via Ethernet, meaning that there is no further need for a video server. Data and power supply of the camera are combined in just one cable meaning that electrical power is passed along with data via the network cable (IEEE 802.3af). This eliminates the costly installation of power cables.
Using progressive scan technology the ExCam IP is capable to encode high-resolution images of moving objects at 30 frames per second without motion blur. This rugged camera delivers sharp images with the resolution HDTV 720p and 1 MP.
Browser based video software
SAMCONtrol is the world“s first real web based video management system, making the installation of video client software obsolete. A standard web browser, installed on the OS or in the PCS, replaces costly and time consuming set up of video management software. Using standard web components such as Adobe Flash and dynamic HTML-scripts, SAMCONtrol makes it easy for the user to configure, manage and operate video networks. Using Drag „n“ drop the user can build an individual unit location plan, group video thumbs, lists and recording archives. The overview/interface can be called manually or automatically (event triggered) from the PCS. In addition, cameras can detect activities and send an alarm to the PCS.
„Despite the somewhat unfavourable location between two halls, the show turned out to be quite a success for us. To demonstrate the abilities of our cameras under real conditions, we simulated a small „chemical process“. We placed a controllable fountain and adjustable lighting source in a wine barrel and then mounted several cameras on a gauge to demonstrate the pros and cons of each camera under different lighting conditions. The control of the cameras was carried out using our new video management system SAMCONtrol. Many visitors enjoyed this kind of live demonstration – the advantages of the different cameras could be grasped so much easier than from a standard brochure.
In recent years, SAMCON has invested heavily in developing new solutions for hazardous areas. Two of these, the network camera ExCam IP and the video management system SAMCONtrol, were introduced to a broader audience. We are very pleased with the interest of existing customers and potential new customers from European countries and Asia.“, says Steffen Seibert, managing director of SAMCON.
