Positive energy trend continues in Poland

Poland lays the foundations for a carbon-neutral future with the construction of another two onshore wind farms in the northwest of the country. The Tractebel experts analysed the projects and are supervising construction.

In February 2021, the Polish government adopted a new energy policy for the decarbonization of the energy sector, known as Poland’s Energy Policy until 2040 (PEP 2040). The policy focuses on increased production and use of renewable energies. Two wind farms currently under construction in Krzecin (19.2 MW) and Kuslin (39.6 MW) are new examples of projects which are in line with the country’s energy initiative. As the lender’s engineer, Tractebel is involved in analyses and construction supervision.

Propelling Poland towards greener energy

Tractebel has extensive experience with renewable energy projects in Poland. Commissioned by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Bayerische Landesbank, we are providing a variety of services for the new onshore wind farm scheme.

In the summer of 2020, the Tractebel experts began with the project appraisal. Financing was secured by the end of the year 2020. Within this short timeframe, Tractebel provided services for the technical and ecological analysis of the projects from the perspective of the planned financing. The renewable energy experts also provided wind studies and supported the lenders in the negotiations of the technical conditions for the transaction.

Tractebel supervising construction of two new onshore wind farms

Construction of the wind farms began in the spring of 2021. The Tractebel team is currently supervising the construction process for the lender: we are responsible for ensuring contractual deadlines, quality of work corresponds to the plans and the project is within the agreed budget. The two wind farms are expected to be operational by the end of 2022. These new renewable energy projects will be integrated into Poland’s energy matrix, which is fully in line with the purpose of the German company of engineering a carbon-neutral future.

“Our work as consultant for funding agencies and investors in Poland goes back to 2005. We are proud to have provided support for numerous renewable energy projects with a total installed output of around 3 GW since then,” says Ewa Zimmmermann-Piechalak, Team Lead, Tractebel in Germany.
