New store opens at prestigiouos address

A store specialising in diamond jewellery was launched in the
Michelangelo Towers, in Sandton, earlier this month.

Owned by the Masingita group, which has 12 subsidiary companies
with interests in mining, catering, pro- perty, fashion, music and
jewellery, the store will feature a cutting station, where
customers will be able to view stones being polished. Masingita
executive chairperson MacDonald Temane notes that the special
feature of the store, called Masingita Diamonds of South Afgrinding wheels for cupro nickelrica, is
that customers will have a direct say in how their diamonds are
polished and in the overall design of their jewellery.
“Anything that can have a diamond in it, we will do,&rdcast grinding balls specificationquo;
says Temane, adding that the store is currently work- ing on
decorating a mobile phone with diamonds.

The volume-control button of the phone, says Temane, will be inlaid

The store will supply a range of uncut and polished stones, as well
as predesigned diamond jewellery. Temane, who is also the head of
the Master Diamond Cutters’ Associ- ation of South Africa,
says that 60% of the stones will be acquired from De Beers, while
the remaining diamonds will come from independent miners.

The group is also investigating opportunities for opening similar
stores locally and internationally, with Temane mentioning both
Durban and Cape Town as potential new markets.

He adds that significant demand from places like Dubai and London
could also warrant looking into opportunities further afield.

As an example, Temane explains that Masingita supplied 12
“substantial stones” to London last year. “But
for now, I am going to sit on this store,” he says. Temane,
who invested upwards of R1,5-million in the store, also reveals
that he will soon be launching a ‘Mac Temane’ brand for
the group’s diamonds. Masingita Mining, a mining con- tractor
in coal and iron-ore, with assets of about R120-million, is a
black-owned company that is the most recent creation of the
Masingita group.

Although the mining side of the group has exposure to coal and
iron-ore, the company is also seeking interests in diamond-mining.
