One of the leading designers and manufacturers of idler rollers,
conveyor structures and components for belt-conveyor systems,
Continental Meco has introduced a new heavy-duty idler roller for
use in bulvsi crusher rock on rockk materials-handling.
Originally designed for one of Southern Africa’s leading mines, the
roller has undergone 18 months of dynamic testing and operating
trials. The roller, the series 60, has an array of design
innovations and includes, for example, a 60-mm-diameter shaft and
Conti sealing arrangement.
This purpose-designed sealing arrangement balances the requirements
between lubrication retention, sealing efficiency and rolling
resistance, providing an overall sealing package that is capable of
operating efficiently in arduous conditions, varying from wet to
dry, fluctuating temperatures and high levels of
contamination.
The new idler roller is suitable for all types of applications
where a combination of high belt speeds, high belt tensions and
heavy load-carrying abilities are required, with the roller being
particularly suited to hostile operating environments.
The company, part of the Continental Global group and a fully
recognised black-empowerment enterprise company, manufactures a
range of idler rollers locally from series 25 through to series 60
in either steel or sleeved high-density polyethylene from its 6 000
m2 plant on the East Rand. In addition, the company actively
designs and produces customised rollers for special
applications.
Its manufacturing plant has quality control systems and machinery
in place to ensure the consistency of quality and product. The
company manufactures to ISO 9002, SABS 1313 and holds a quality
rating from a large mining company.
Equipment at the factory includes sophisticated digital linear
measuring apparatus, computer numeric controlled machines, fully
automated welding machines, dedicated final inspection bays and
research and development testing laboratories.
The company has installed a separate small-batch line to handle
specialised custom-made production runs.
