Modern Turf Announce Installation at Highland Rim Golf Club

Rembert, South Carolina – December 15, 2012 – Modern Turf, Inc., the preeminent, South Carolina-based turfgrass production company, announced it has installed new putting greens featuring its Miniverde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass turf at Highland Rim Golf Club in Joelton, Tennessee.

Hank Kerfoot, President of Modern Turf, Inc., said, “Highland Rim is one of the most popular 18-hole championship golf courses, not only in the Nashville area, but throughout the state of Tennessee. 15 years of extreme heat, record-setting rainfall and other menacing climate changes had taken a toll on the existing greens. As hard as it is for many members to consider removal of the bent grass they have played on for years, it truly is the best decision. We were excited to be a part of the Club’s important greens conversion.”

In a message to the Highland Rim Golf Club membership, Club President John Doerr said, “As the weather has become hotter and drier it has become more difficult and costly to maintain bent grass. While bent grass can be a superior putting surface for a few weeks in spring and fall, MiniVerde will provide us with the best possible putting surface year round.”

The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. MiniVerde has been the top-rated Bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials for the past several years.

Kerfoot added, “The new greens look vibrant and polished, and they feel much firmer and consistent under foot. In addition, with less need for aeration, pesticide control and watering, these new greens will have lasting impact on the Club’s bottom line.”
