Pretoria-based JCB Engineering and Mining Supplies is using
Oerlikon Carbofil metal inert gas (MIG) wire in the refurbishment
of bowls for Cat 785 mining dump-trucks belonging to AngloPlatinum
Sandsloot opencast mine, in Potgietersrus, Northern Province.
The reconditioning of the bowl, which has a mass of some 33 t, and
measures 6m by 11 m with a capacity of 150 t of ore, involves the
rebuilding of the headboard anstone crusher hire devond replacing all the wear-plates
inside the bowl.
The bowl is given a solid 12 mm VRN 400 wear-plate lining
throughout, small portable gravel crusher in indiaand the 16 mm ASS 500 wear strips, 130 mm wide, are
welded onto the lining in the bottom of the bowl some 100 mm
apacement vertical roller mill operationrt.
Refurbishments to the bowl conform to AngloPlatinum’s
specifications, which have been adapted to conditions at Sandsloot,
and the design lessens the wear caused by the abrasive rock
material.
According to JCB Engineering and Mining Supplies‘ Peet
Bezuidenhout, the wire supplied by OESA’s Pretoria branch is the
only wire used for a job of this nature.
„It is high quality with little spatter and the company has no
downtime due to feeding problems with this MIG wire,“ explains
Bezuidenhout.
„Unlike many other wires, it does not give off copper powder, which
tends to clog the liners and tips, which can increase costs on an
hourly basis,“ he says. The company handles a wide range of welding
repairs to earthmoving machinery for the mines as well as urban
authorities and contractors.
The company has several field units operating portable welders
working as far afield as Botswana.
