Implementation lifts productivity only 2% at Elandsrand

A Harmony Gold task team has completed its internal due diligence of the company’s continuous operations (Conops), and has found a 2% productivity improvement at Elandsrand, although Evander’s No 8 shaft was up 18,5%.

The internal due diligence studies were conducted at the Tshepong, Elandsrand, Masimong, Evander No 8 and Winkelhaak shafts, as well as at the Cooke 2 operations. These and Target are the only shafts in Harmony that use Conops.

The objective of the due diligence was threefold, with the first being to establish whether Conops has been successfully implemented at the mines where it was introduced, as well as the extent to which the original objective of improved profitamaize grin to maize flourbility without compromising safety was met. Theoretically, Conops should result in increased production of 26% and a cost increase of 18%, leading to increased profitability.

The second objective was to understand the gap that exists between the current performance of the opera- tions and the potential performance after the implementation of Conops at these operations.

The third objective was replacement parts for cs crusher usato understand the reasons for the underperformance against the Conops potential and propose actions to close the gap. These actions are based on best practice and know-ledge sharing within the group.

The due diligence was conducted in a three-stage approach.

During the first stage, an internal perception survey was undertaken and responses to the questionnaire indicated thatprimary jaw crusher for sale in canada management-level employees are positively disposed towards, and understand the strategic importance of, Conops. It also showed that mine employees, includ- ing unions and associations, generally prefer Conops to the traditional working cycle, especially foreign workers, because of the extended breaks, the Conops allowances and job creation.

It is at middle-management level that a mimakita sanding equipment heavy duty 220 voltssalignment towards Conops is being experienced.

Stage two entailed an evaluation of pre- and post-Conops results, with the outcome measured against a pre- defined benchmark for the operation.

“This exercise revealed, besides other indicators, that productivity pre- and post-Conops implementation increased by a low 2% at Elands- rand and by a high of 18,5% at Evander No 8portable concrete crusher rental,” says the company.

“It also reveals that all these operations generally showed an improvement in safety statistics over the last few years as a result of different initiatives that were implemented to improve safety throughout Harmony.”

During the third stage of the due diligence exercise, a thorough fact-finding process was conducted within the mining, engineering (production as well as shafts and services), human resources and financial disciplies.

Says Harmony, “As part of the process, all service functions, engineering maintenance, response time to breakdowns, weekend service-level requirements as well as the commissioning and maintaining of related equipment were scrutinised.

“Action plans have been drawn up by each shaft management team at each operation to address those issues that have been identified as requiring attention.

Conops will be reviewed again within three months and it is our intention to phase out Conops at those operations that do not deliver on our objectives.”
