Consultancy to the Next Level
Although they have much in common, they are worlds apart: the BLACKBOX Paper Collection and its new sibling, the WHITEBOX, which Berliner Druckzentrum LASERLINE has now developed to continue its successful idea of offering print sample collections to facilitate customer decisions. In recent years the BLACKBOX has become an indispensable companion to many thousands of customers. And now it has been revamped, considerably extended and endowed with valuable new functions – as the WHITEBOX, which is dramatically different both inside and out. Its biggest advantage is that the blank paper samples enable neutral planning of customer projects without revealing the printer – no agency will want to do without them. Thanks to calibrated monitor screens, „what you see is what you get“ is now a matter of course in the field of graphic design. Similarly, the motto of the BLACKBOX and WHITEBOX is „what you feel is what you get“.
When the BLACKBOX was launched three years ago, this innovative four-volume collection of print samples made quite a splash in the graphic arts industry. To drive its booming online business, LASERLINE had come up with the ideal instrument to support ordering print jobs via the Internet: namely, books of print samples to feel and look at. Like the specimens that cloth and carpet peddlers used to carry when making house calls, they allowed LASERLINE to show customers examples of print products for them to touch and see. Orders continued to be placed online, but customers could now check in advance whether their expectations would be met in terms of tactile sensation and visual appeal.
LASERLINE“s customers no longer want to dispense with these practical sample books. But paper ages and product programmes grow. LASERLINE Druckzentrum has now therefore taken the logical next step. Instead of four, now there are 18 books for an even better overview of what“s available. The online shop used to indicate which book contained a given paper. Now the sample books also include references to the Internet. Each paper sample bears a QR code that you can decode using an appropriate reading device – for example, a mobile phone. You are then taken straight to the website to get more information on the paper, share opinions in a discussion forum or conveniently place an order. For LASERLINE, linking print products to the Web in this way is an intuitive next step towards greater cross-media networking.
Also because many of our business customers use the sample books to advise their own customers, LASERLINE has created the WHITEBOX: an invaluable tool for graphic designers, advertisers and other professionals who wish to show their customers neutral samples. In contrast to the BLACKBOX, the paper samples in the WHITEBOX are completely neutral. They do not include any references whatsoever to LASERLINE. The elegant WHITEBOX is finished as a premium edition, and in addition to the sample books also includes a CMYK guide with more than 21,500 colour hues. The samples and colour charts provide a very precise idea of what the finished print product will be like, which makes it that much easier to choose. It avoids from the start the doubts and insecurity that many print buyers feel when placing orders online. They gain confidence from being able to feel their print product even before it has been produced. LASERLINE has always made a point of instilling this confidence and then demonstrating that it is well-deserved.
