Despite threats of a rain delay, qualifying for the Daytona 500 ran as scheduled Thursday.
Chase Elliott took home the checkered flag in the Can-Am Duel No. 1, while Denny Hamlin won Duel No. 2.
We already knew that Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Jr. would start in the front row for the Daytona 500, but the rest of the starting grid was up for grabs.
Thursday’s Can-Am Duels determined the rest of the 40-car field by way of two 150-mile qualifying races.
Corey LaJoie and D.J. Kennington joined Elliott Sadler and Brendan Gaughan as the four open teams to fill the Daytona 500 field.
