(Image:sexy prom dresses)Her designs have gone global—from Bollywood actors to the fashion circles of New York. Now, making an entry into Chennai with her collection on display at Evolv, Amrita Singh’s fashion forward line brings together the concepts of Indian heritage and modern elements.
With the best of mentors, Amrita is an alumnus of the Fashion Institute of Technology and has undergone a two-year executive programme at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City. Working with some of the finest designers like Christian Lacroix and Oscar de la Renta, she is recognised as one of the more innovative designers here.
In an e-mail chat with CE, she says that while the collection draws heavily from the Mughal period, it is not trapped by any particular era or time. “Rather, it is a fusion which takes modern elements and mixes them with the heritage of India. There are a lot of colours in the jewellery and it is very symbolic of my roots from India,” she adds.
In Windsor red, pigment green, antique gold and pop colours in floral motifs, the jewellery line takes you back to the period of a dynasty that spoke of splendour and magnificence. But, with a timeless appeal, the line is a blend of urban designs, diverse range, and speaks of artistic excellence.
Having gone global, we are a little surprised that this is her debut show in Chennai. However, she seems a lot more surprised than us — courtesy the fast fashion scene in Chennai. Calling the Chennai market vibrant and more fashionable than she imagined it to be, she says, “It is my first in Chennai and it is more fashion forward than I imagined it to be. It has a great vibe,” she says.
She says that Evolv’s aesthetic appeal made it a perfect venue for having her collection displayed.
Amrita says that there is no one particular group for her collection. “We cater to women in the age group of 18-65 years, who is a global citizen. She has an eclectic sense of style and wants to be noticed in her accessories,” she says.Also read here:backless prom dresses
