Dresden (Germany), October 11, 2011 – From October 11-13, Heliatek presents its flexible and translucent organic photovoltaic modules at the seventh Plastic Electronics Exhibition and Conference in Dresden, Germany. In addition, Dr. Martin Pfeiffer, internationally recognized expert in the field of organic electronics and CTO of Heliatek, gives a presentation on organic photovoltaic based on small molecules at the Plastic Electronics Conference on October 13.
Heliatek presents its state-of-the-art generation of photovoltaic technology in hall 2, booth 070: Organic photovoltaic based on small molecules. Glass as well as foil modules in different colors and various levels of transparency are displayed at the booth. This gives visitors the opportunity to preview the design freedom this latest generation of photovoltaic has to offer.
The modules will go in production in a roll-to-roll process on low cost foils by mid-2012. Heliatek panels are flexible, robust and extremely light, at 0.5 kg/m2 and a weight factor of 190 Wp/kg.
„Due to its outstanding product features and technological breakthrough, our technology opens up completely new dimensions for solar applications, even in areas where traditional solar technologies nowadays are finding their limits”, says Thibaud Le Séguillon, CEO of Heliatek.
Whereas the efficiency of conventional modules decreases with each degree rise in temperature, Heliatek organic modules maintain their full efficiency due to its zero temperature coefficient. A clear advantage, especially for sunny regions. The panels are also perfectly suitable for northern countries with less sunshine thanks to their outstanding low light performance – the module efficiency remains constant down to 100 Wp/m2.
Thibaud Le Séguillon adds: „The cells are made of only 4 grams of organic raw material without any heavy metals. Environmentally-friendly materials, low process temperatures and an extremely short energy payback time make organic photovoltaics the only truly green solar technology.”
About Heliatek:
Heliatek was spun-off in 2006 from the Technical University of Dresden (IAPP) and the University of Ulm. The company’s founding brought together internationally renowned expertise in the fields of organic optoelectronics and organic oligomer synthesis. As the global technology leader in the field of organic photovoltaics based on small molecules, Heliatek is currently making the transition from pure technology development to industrial manufacture. Heliatek’s goal is to mass-produce organic photovoltaic panels using the world’s first roll-to-roll process for the vacuum deposition of small molecules in 2012.
Heliatek maintains a total staff of some 70 employees and specialists at its facilities in Dresden and Ulm. Investors in Heliatek include leading financial and industrial companies such as BASF, Bosch, RWE, and Wellington Partners. Research and development work, as well as the installation of production technology, has been funded by the Free State of Saxony, the BMBF (Federal Ministry for Education & Research), the BMWi (Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology), and the European Union.
