Today we will hear the legendary designer Alber Elbaz shed light on why he loves clothes and the women who wear them so much. „It was not the story of design or clothes. It was the fantasy of women that made me want to work in fashion,“
He is known for creating some of fashion’s most feminine and romantic designs. Talking about his inspiration, Elbaz’s motivation comes from a desire to make women’s lives easier. His opinion is that fashion should not be about having a second skin – it is about fantasy; about putting on a red, chiffon dress, looking in the mirror and feeling amazing. A woman once said to me, ‚Every time that I wear Lanvin, a man falls in love with me.‘ I thought ‚How sad, why isn’t she the one falling in love?‘ That’s the woman that I want to dress.“ “I want them to be able to get into a car, to be able to have dessert, to feel beautiful,“ he said.
Before joining Lanvin when he was tasked with „waking the sleeping beauty“, he worked with Geoffrey Beene in New York and at Yves Saint Laurent where he was dismissed from. He was quick to offer his thoughts on the fashion house’s latest creative director, Hedi Slimane, whose first two collections for the label have been met with mixed reviews.
Finally he mentioned „There is so much history, so it takes time to get into it. Everything has to be so instant now. To be a fashion critic is easy – you say, ‚I love it or I hate it.‘ Life isn’t only about love and hate. When you join a house like Lanvin or Chanel and it will go on even longer than you will.“
