Anniversary and innovative technical developments – more than one good reason to take part in the 12th TechnologyDay at HOFMANN!

The journey of many of the international guests travelling to the TechnologyDay at HOFMANN would certainly end in chaos if this ground-breaking invention did not exist: By having the world“s first central line to separate traffic in opposing directions painted onto Woodward Avenue in Detroit/Michigan in 1911 initiator Edward N. Hines (1870 – 1938) invented road markings.

Just ten years later Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, was the first place in Great Britain to use road markings. And in the years following this white road markings were adopted as standard in England and other countries. This was also the case in Germany, where official white markings to separate roads from pavements and also opposing traffic lanes were used for the first time in Berlin in 1925. These are just some of the further developments in the history of an invention which has been indispensible for over 100 years.

If the „Great-grandfather of road marking“ Edward N. Hines were still among us, then he would surely be happy to accept the invitation to visit Hofmann on Thursday, 24 November 2011. The day on which the Rellingen-based company for road marking technology, one of the industry“s international market leaders, will be holding its 12th TechnologyDay at its headquarters and in its grounds. „This year we are not only looking forward to discussing technology with the participants. We also want to celebrate with our guests and raise our glasses to 100 years of road markings,“ says Torsten Pape, HOFMANN“s Head of Sales and Marketing. Together with owner Frank Hofmann; his son Jan Hofmann and the HOFMANN team Pape once again looks forward to welcoming national and international industry representatives and industry-related service providers from 10.00 to 17.00.

The anniversary of road markings – this special event is bound to encourage even more interested guests to accept the company“s invitation than is already the case. „For many people, the trip to visit us is a highlight and already a kind of tradition in this global industry,“ says Torsten Pape to explain the importance of the event initiated by HOFMANN. „Lots of our visitors have been attending for years to gather up-to-the-minute industry input and exchange ideas and experience with business and cooperation partners in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere,“ he adds. This year again sees numerous representatives of international companies expected in Rellingen and Torsten Pape is very sure that the company will have even more visitors than last year – over 330 guests from 33 countries.

In addition to familiar guests from Germany; all other European countries, Australia, Asia and America the HOFMANN team is looking forward to also being able to welcome participants from South America – for the first time also from Peru – and from the Middle East; Ukraine and, again for the first time, from the United Arab Emirates to the forthcoming 12th TechnologyDay. Owner Frank Hofmann puts it succinctly: „Our TechnologyDay has become a fixed event in the industry. Lots of people like to come here to swap ideas. Hofmann provides the framework to do so.“

Without Edward N. Hines“ major innovation 100 years ago Hofmann“s successful company would probably not exist; a company which has long since gained itself a position among the world“s leading manufacturers of marking machines. HOFMANN marking machines are currently sold in 132 countries world-wide.

Visitors to the 12th TechnologyDay will again have the opportunity to learn how these highly specialized procedures and equipment are structured and function during interesting presentations given by Frank Hofmann himself („The development history of the 2-component application procedure at Hofmann“) and also by guest speakers from various countries. James P. Crocker (USA) will thus be talking on the „Stripe Hog® Waterblasting System“, which will also be practically demonstrated in the course of the specialist trade fair. With Rafael Rodriguez an expert from Peru will be taking the podium for the first time. His presentation is entitled „Marking materials in Peru“.

In addition to the above, a further three interesting specialist presentations are scheduled: Dr Eva Kutschmann, from host country Germany, will be providing information on the topic „Flow characteristics of road marking materials“. Following this Jovo Mikanovic from Ukraine will be reporting on „Experiences with the processing of cold plastics in Ukraine“, followed by Shafik Nasser from the United Arab Emirates who will be giving a presentation on the topic of „The market entry of 2-component cold plastic marking systems in the Middle East“.

As in previous years interpreters will simultaneously translate all the presentations into diverse languages such as English, Spanish and Russian.

During the course of the subsequent practical demonstrations of various machines and techniques in HOFMANN“s grounds the equipment will be able to „speak for itself“ – and once again amaze many of the guests present. At this year“s 12th TechnologyDay HOFMANN will have a brand-new innovation to show its visitors: The H25-4 marking machine with articulated frame steering for airless cold paints and sprayable cold plastics is one of the company“s most recent developments. In addition to this, the line widthstabiliser system for path-dependent airless spraying and an airport marking machine supplied to Hamburg Airport will be demonstrated.

Over and above this, the 12th TechnologyDay will have a lot more to celebrate than „just“ one hundred year old road lines. The company HOFMANN has been headquartered in Rellingen for 50 years and will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of its founding next year.
