Rembert, South Carolina – December 15, 2012 – Modern Turf, Inc., the preeminent, South Carolina-based turfgrass production company, announced installation of its Miniverde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass turf on nine of the 27 holes at Keith Hills Golf Club, located on the campus of Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
The 6,625-yard, par 72 championship golf course, designed by Ellis Maples, is home to the Campbell University golf teams as well the PGA Golf Management Program. Keith Hills is also host of several renowned tournaments, such as the U.S. Woman’s Open Sectional Qualifier, North Carolina Senior Amateur, and the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
Hank Kerfoot, President of Modern Turf, Inc., said, “Keith Hills Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship play. We are excited to be part of the Club’s greens replacement project. To date, we have replaced nine holes with our Miniverde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass turf, the number one turf in the sport today. We expect players to see a substantial difference in play, and for the greens team to experience less in the way of course maintenance.”
The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. It is known for being drought- and heat-resistant. MiniVerde has been the top-rated Bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials for the past several years.
Kerfoot added, “There is clearly a movement within the golfing world to move from bent grass greens to Bermudagrass. It is our role to help Clubs manage these substantial renovations, help answer any questions they may have, and work with them throughout every stage of the project. ”
