Boksburg laboratory processing 15 000 exploration samples a month

Genalysis Laboratory Services currently processes some 15 000
exploration samples a month at its preparation facility in Boksburg
– double the number the Australian company anticipated when
it took the decision to establish a permanent South African
presence in 2003, Mining Weekly can today report.

The sample-preparation facility, located in Dormehl Road,

operation, which is managed by Tyrone Cowland, who reports that
Genalysis regularly operates at the hectic pace of two 12-hour
shifts a day.

preparation pro-cesses that 14 staff members carry out at the 880
m2 Boksburg faci-lity.

The procedure begins with truck-ed-in samples being placed on
pallets, numbered, documented, numerically sequenced and
workbenched.

High-grade samples and low-grade samples are separated and
processed through different circuits in order to eliminate the risk
of contamination, each circuit having two drying ovens.
