Local company IMS Engineering has been awarded a contract by Wankie
colliery in Zimbabwe for the refurbishment of a steam turbine and
compressor to as-new condition. The contract involves a total
strip-out of the turbine and compressor, non-destructive
examination of the rotating components, such as the rotors and
gearbox, as well as bearing and journal inspections, bearing
clearances, mechanical run-out inspections and dynamic
balancing.
Due to the type, model and non-availabilivertical raw mill mechanical maintancety of spare bearings and
compressor shaft seals and intermediate seals, a complete set of
each are to be manufactured prior to the strip-out of the
units.
Thmobile crusher salee company’s thorough refurbishment service will include the
repair of the oil heat-exchangers, oil pumps, control valves and
instrumentation.
Finally, it will also be responsible for the laser alignment,
crusher for ore miningno-load and full-load testing, as well as detailed vibration
analysis before final handover.
The firm’s refurbishment service operates from its modern workshops
in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
It also specialises in the turnkey supply of equipment and plant,
and provides product support throughout Southern Africa, as well as
an after-sales service for industrial and marine power, turbo
machines, crushing and screening.
In other developments, IMS Engineering‘ s service centre has
completed the repair of four KKK turbines for Zincor.
The project called for the refurbishment of one of the turbines and
the regrading of the remaining three.
As part of the project, the contractor increased the exhaust steam
on the turbine from about 0,5 bar to seven bar, giving the client
greater use of downstream energy.
The firm expects further demand for its refurbishment services from
companies seeking to increase productivity without investing in
expensive capital equipment.
After-sales service is provided for turbomachinery, diesel
generator standby plants, marine power and crushing and screening
plant throughout South Africa.
The scope of the company’s after-sale service extends from
installation and commissioning of new equipment to inspection,
overhaul, modification and repair of existing plant.
