Keeping workers and the environment safe

As a supplier of integrated safety health, environmental and
quality (SheQ) risk-management services, IRCA has a long-standing
relationship with Anglo Platinum (AngloPlat) and has been chiefly
involved in designing, implementing and monitoring the group’s
health and safety systems.

That relationship extends back to 1995 when the company was
appointed in recognition of the need for sophisticated SheQ-related
services.

Initial studies highlighted the fact that the various AngloPlat
operations each had autonomous health and safety managemeconcrete crusher rental chicagont systems
with varying degrees of success in injury prevention.

A baseline assessment duly conducted by the company measured the
quality of the existing health and safety systems, determined a
health and safety profile for each operatiocrusher manufacturers of europen and resulted in the
internal design of a practical health and safety system which could
be applied generically at all operations and which identified
shortcomings.

The resultant benchmarking was fully in compliance with
international standacoal crusher processing plant projectrds and a detailed action plan was duly
implemented, with the initial focus on rectifying areas where the
best short-term results could be achieved.

Management support for the process was unstinting, and
skills-training courses were developedworking principle of apple crusher both internally and
externally to meet the need for competence in identifying and
rectifying hazards, and a system of implementation was put into
place, ensuring ‚buy-in‘ from employees, trade unions and
associations.

The comprehensive process was applied tmilling machines price directory in germanyo each individual mine,
linking with safety personnel and business managers and providing
assistance, while ensuring that the mines themselves did the
‚footprinting‘ of the safety and health compliance system framework
at their own pace.

The venture employed IRCA’s common audit process system, an
integrated measurement tool that embraces the international SheQ
codes as well as other related management audits.

The system is applicable to all types and sizes of organisation and
accommodates diverse geographical, cultural and social
conditions.

Moreover, it shares principles with the ISO 9001 series of quality
system standards as well as with the ISO 14000 series of
environmental standards and OHSAS 18001.

Fundamentally, the system is not prescriptive, contains best
practices and integrates management system audit procedures where
there is commonality of audit function to keep the work practical,
flexible and relevant to the site’s needs.

The challenge for the future is to ensure further integration of
the health and safety programme into the management systems of the
respective operations to enhance their effectiveness through
maximisation of each element.

IRCA’s role is now expected to broaden to incorporate AngloPlat’s
two new mines, Maandagshoek platinum-mine, near Burgersfort, and
Waterval Smelter, near Rustenburg.
