Civils firm designs screening building for Mpumalanga coal-mine

Consulting civil and structural engineering firm Holley &
Associates, of Gauteng, has designed a large screening building for
an Mpumalanga coal-mine.

The 15-metre-high screening build-ing is part of a R33-million
crushing and screening plant that was designed and constructed by
Executive Technical Services (ETS).

Contracted by ETS, Holley & Associates was responsible for the
design of the structural steelwork for the primary and secondary

overland conveyor and transfer tower between the conveyor and
ground line.

installations, but this one was challenging because it was the
first its size,” says director David Haines.

decade, been offering its technical expertise to the min-ing and
metallurgical processing industries.

The company, which currently employs 18 people, including
direc-tors, is planning to increase its staff complement in the
near future in preparation for what Haines refers to as
“future developments in the mining industry”.

“We are also testing the water in some projects
abroad,” he adds.

He says South African engineering companies are highly saleable
inter-nationally, because of their technical abilities and
competitive pricing.

They are better-suited to the African environment by far as
compared to their European counterparts, Haines notes.

Holley & Associates has been involved in a number of projects
in Africa and abroad through South African principals, but not as
much as it would have liked, Haines adds.

The company has undertaken pro- jects in a number of countries,
in-cluding Australia, Canada, and Indon- esia.
