African expansion continues

South African-based African Explosives Limited (AEL), which is
reportedly Africa’s leading explosives producer, is moving into new
markets in west and east Africa as it strengthens its focus on
being the major supplier of explosives products, services and
solutions to the mining industry throughout the continent.

An upsurge in African mining activities, combined with a vigorous
growth policy, has led AEL to the substantial expansion of its
activities and investment across the continent.

With the South African gold market showing a steady decline, AEL
has committed itself to an African growth strategy which emphasises
three main activities. mobile crushing machine for sale irelandThe first is an aggressive pursuit of new
business in selected African markets; second is a strong focus on
taking the very latest technology into the continent; and finally,
a firm intention to advance its involvement with African economies
through direct investment in identified and justified
markets.

„African business is a substazimbabwe corn mill grinder for salential and increasing part of our
platform, and our international operations, including Africa, have
grown from less than 20% to more than 30% of our business. „We
still see ongoing growth opportunities in Africa, and will continue
to focus on this continent, as well as expanding our international
options,“ says MD Graham Edwards.

Ghana and Mali in jaw crushers price in indiaWest Africa, as well as Tanzania in East Africa,
are becoming three important areas in African mining and, says
international business director Stuart Wade, „AEL is already well
established in all three countries.“ In West Africa – apart
from its existing manufacturing facilities in Ghana – AEL
selected Mali as the destination for its sixth major manufacturing
planprocess of mining iront in an African country other than South Africa. Situated at
Morila, the new modular bulk emulsion manufacturing facility
represents an investment of R10-million. Although establishment of
this production plant was justified by the volumes of bulk emulsion
required for the Morila gold-mining project alone, it has the
potential to supply the whole Mali market as well as offering the

African explosives market. „Our West African operation, with a
well- established hub in Ghana, is already supplying major
gold-mining projects in Mali and Guinea from our bulk emulsion
plants in Ghana and Mali,“ says Wade.

The growth of the company in East Africa has been as a result of
the expansion of gold-mining in Tanzania. It has a well-established
bulk emulsion facility at Geita, which serves the Geita and
Bulyanhulu gold-mining projects.

„We have also signed a contract for the provision of explosives to
the new Legadembe gold-mining operation in Ethiopia, and are
already planning the commissioning of a R10-million modular bulk
emulsion manufacturing facility there, which is our seventh major
African plant outside of South Africa,“ explains Wade.

AEL is considering projects in west, east and north Africa, where
existing mining operations are looking towards exploration for more
deposits in surrounding areas.

Apart from its South African operation, registered AEL companies
have been established in Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, Nigeria and
Botswana.

The company has explosives-manufacturing plants in Ghana, Mali,
Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Wade concludes that „as we
have proved in such countries as Ghana, Mali, Tanzania, Ethiopia
and Zambia, AEL is prepared to follow wherever its customers go.“
