Asmart partnership between Barloworld Equip- ment Energy and
Witbank-based pump manu- facturer and distributor Rocktuff Manufac-
turers has resulted in the first-time applic- ation of a
Caterpillar C9 electronically- controlled engine in a water
pumpset. “The pumpset is aimed at the opencast-mining and
construction industries,” says Barloworld Equipment Energy
industrial sales manager Dave Vice. He adds that the C9 is a
heavy-duty engine that boasts low fuel consumption, proved
reliability and a number of safety features. Barloworld Equipment
Energy is the sole Southern African distributor of Caterpillar
engirussia impact crusher suppliernes. Vice notes that the 8,8 l electronic Caterpillar engine
replaces the 10 l to 12 l mechanical engine used for this
application until now.
Rocktuff Manufacturers is the sole maker of Anvac positive
self-priming pumps, Anwell recirculating self-priming pumps and
Ansub slurry submersible pumps. Thgold crusher saving machinee company builds and sells new
and reconditioned pumps for supply to the opencast-mining and
construction industries. According to Vice, the pumps go up to
200-m head, at pumping averages of about 700 m3/h to 800 m3/h.
Synergies between the two companies have led to Rocktuff’s
appointment as one of Barloworld Equipmcrushing crusher supplier in pretoriaent Energy’s approved
original-equipment manufacturers. “We have found a matching
Caterpillar engine for almost all of our pumps in almost every type
of application. “Our pumps and Barloworld Equipment’s
engines just seem to match together beautifully,” says
Rocktuff sales manalatrobe wash plants ligniteger Joubie Joubert.
Setting Rocktuff Manufacturers apart from other pump-supply
companies is its design ability and quality of manufacture.
“We work towards offering a one-stop pump shop,” says
Joubert.
Apart from drainage of aggressive liquids, slurries and mine water,
the pump manufactugold cone crusher pricerer also offers customers a fleet of rental pumps
ranging from 10-m to 120-m head – reducing downtime
significantly, as customers can run their operation with a rental
solution while their pumps are in for repairs.
Making the first-time application of the Caterpillar C9 HEUI
injection engine significant is the fact that it is electronically
controlled, making the pumpset more efficient and more reliable,
says Barloworld Equipment Energy industrial engine sales John Rudd.
He explains that the electronic controls sense changes in operating
conditions, instantly compensating by adjusting speed, injection
timing and the air:fuel ratio of the engine.
The electronic fuel injection improves fuel economy, cuts
emissions, and delivers reliable, smoke-free starts, says Rudd. He
adds that, on the other hand, electronic moni-toring warns of
engine trouble, pinpoints engine faults for quick diagnosis and
repair, and logs a complete operating history. Programmable
features allow Rocktuff Manu-facturers to customise engine response
according to the customer’s needs, set parameters and
predetermine idle speeds. “The design of the water pumpset
itself is not new; in fact, it is quite a popular pumpset in the
mining industry,” says Joubert. He notes that one of the most
significant benefits of running a Caterpillar-powered pumpset is
the fact that most of its existing clients in the mining industry
already run on Caterpillar-related products. Caterpillar engines
are known for their reliability, durability, efficiency and
performance.
