Driving Zambian copper projects

Since its inception two years ago, the projects department at diversified electrical engineering company SEW Eurodrive has grown at a tremendous rate, and one of its projects that has been completed is the Lumwana copper project, in Zambia.

The project, which took place in conjunction with mining and construction group Sandvik, included the installation of 12 industrial gear units for use on conveyor drives, which transport copper to the process plant.

The X-series is a new product in the SEW Eurodrive stable and covers a power range from 6 kNm to 180 kNm.

It is currently avproduction stone crusher machineailable as a fully imported model from Germany, but the official launch of the product in South Africa will take place in September, with the subsequent local assembly and stockholding.

SEW Eurodrive will also be displaying the new X-series at the upcoming Electra Mining showcrusher machine jaw plate manufacture in Johannesburg later this year.

Starting out with a small team, the department has seen such demand for project planning from customers that it has employed an additional two qualified engineers and a qualified draughtsperson to assist clients from the planning scopper ore crushers singapore supplierstage of an application, to the commissioning of the drives on site.

“Being the new kids on the block has certainly not always been easy, but being a small team has had great advantages,” comments projects department head Conrad Pilger.

The projectstone crushing business australias team is assisted by field service technicians, who are available through its 24-hour hotline, and are able to service and repair units on site if necessary. The company also under- takes plant surveys where needed.

Pilger adds that for SEW Eurodrive, customer service is the cornerstojaw plate design slag crushingne to the success of its projects department.

“Since it has been more flexible on design and delivery time, it has gained ground in the competitive industrial gears market,” he concludes.

SEW Eurodrive reportedly also received an order for 20 X-series industrial gear units from project manager and design consultant Dowding, Reynard & Associates (DRA) for the Phola copper pro-ject, in Ogies, in February.

DRA project manager Jannie Neser stated that SEW Eurodrive won the contract for the Phola project through its ability to supply a product with higher torque loads at a better price, as well as the bearing life calculations of the X-series.

Other SEW Eurodrive pro- jects include the supply of 30 industrial gear units for the Nkomati mine, in Mpumalanga, and 35 drives for a nickel mine, in Pilanesberg.
