Producer and supplier of explosives AEL Zambia has made significant investments into Central Africa and manufactures most of the products sold in the region through its plants.

“We have a number of regional manufacturing facilities to produce bulk emulsion explosives for surface and underground use,” says AEL Zambia MD Thinus Bierman.

With the aim of increasing capacity to meet demands in Central Africa, AEL has commissioned a new packaged explosives (PEX) plant. With this new PEX plant, AEL Central Africa has the capacity to manufacture all the product requirements in the country from its ISO 14001-certified facilities in Zambia, including underground bulk emulsions, ammonium nitrate-based explosives (Anfex), the full range of packaged explosives and the assembjaw crusher blue printly of Shock Tube initiating systems and electric detonators, he adds.

As with all AEL operations globally, AEL Zambia has announced its new corporate identity, a strategic move to redefine and energise the brand, taking it to the next level, not only for its internal but also for its external stakeholders.

“Our capacity to manufacture all products in the region gives us a competitive edge and results in reliable stock, reduced supply risks, increased capacity and the flexibility to mrock crushing equipments priceeet the needs of our mining and quarrying customers in Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Malawi,” comments Bierman.

Meeting Customer Demands

He says that AEL supplies most of the international mining operations in the Central Africa region and is currently investing substantially in tstone jaw crusher manufacturerhe DRC, with offices and an AEL team in Lubumbashi, and a bulk emulsion plant and a number of strategically placed storage and distribution sites in the Katanga province, he explains.

Another exciting development for the company was the successful completion of the construction and commissioning of the bulk emulsions manufacturing plant at the Lumwana copper mine in 2009.

“This plant is a modular plant, manufactured by AEL South Africa and assembled on site. “It also providesportable rock crushing plants an alternative production and buffer stock facility in Zambia, assisting in managing the risk of supply concerns,” he says.

“This is an example of how the AEL group can provide a world-class facility with a full range of customised products and services in strategic sites at remote locations around the world,” Bierman says.
