Pilot Crushtec commissions its biggest-ever modular plant in Zambia

Comminution engineering company Pilot Crushtec ended 2010 with the commissioning of its biggest-ever modular plant, which has been installed at a limestone crushing site in Ndola, Zambia.

Pilot Crushtec Africa sales manager Wayne Warren reports that the plant includes 18 Pilot Crushtec machines and was cold-commissioned during the last week of July 2010. Installation and hot commissioning took place during the last quarter of 2010.

Some of the products featured in the plant include a Pilot Modular/TRIO MJ3042 jaw crusher, three Pilot Modular MC 1000 11-m conveyors, a Pilot Modular MC1050 20-m conveyor, a Pilot Modular DD4815 double-deck screen, and a Pilot Modular MC800 16-m conveyor.

Zamm Imports owner Jignesh Soni says that the plant his company acquired from Pilot Crushtec will initially be used to crush 2 000 t/d of aggregate sized between 5 mm and 25 mm.

“The Ndola area has the largest reserve of the finest quality limestone in Zambia and Zamm Imports will be using the plant to supply the booming construction sector and the mining sector, where the limestone is used to neutralise acid,” explains Jignesh.

He adds that he was impressed by the fact that this was the largest installation undertaken by Pilot and he hopes to build an even bigger plant in the future.

“I am always on the lookout for future business in the crushing category and will expand further into crushing ores for the mining industry in the Copperbelt,” he explained.

Zamm Imports has outlets in both Ndola and Kitwe on the Zambian Copperbelt and also has a transport division with a fleet of 25 Volvo super-link trucks. After receiving a contract to supply Zambia Portland Cement (ZPC) with aggregate, Jignesh decided to invest in plant infrastructure.
