New encryption module extends existing data protection for the long-term archiving solution from CSP GmbH & Co. KG and secures contents against unwanted internal as well as external access

Großköllnbach, March 23th 2012. The long-term archiving of relational databases is now even more secure with the Chronos solution. With a newly available encryption module all data handling areas of the archiving solution are encrypted that contain any sensitive data and data worth protecting. The new security extension of the manufacturer, CSP GmbH & Co. KG shields all archived database contents against unauthorised or unwanted access on the basis of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). The encryption is carried out with a 128-bit key, where the key can be changed at any time. In this way Chronos combines two important features in one future-proof solution: An open archiving format according to the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) standard as well as the best security of the data by comprehensive encryption. „The new Chronos encryption module protects archive contents much better than just by the user administration of the storage system. For companies who have agreed the highest level of data protection with their customers or in general have stored sensitive data like bank or credit card information this variety of database archiving is currently the most secure“, advises Kilian Götz, Database Archiving Product Manager at CSP GmbH & Co. KG. The new module, which is available for all Chronos users, came about because of the demands of a large German concern that wanted to develop the protection of archive data both with regard to internal access as well as external attacks .

Security is one of the most important topics of the next few years: The number of criminal attacks on firms continues to increase steadily. This affects companies of all sizes and in all sectors. Seasoned hackers quickly breakthrough a firewall or other protective measures and then often move completely unhindered around the network. Here they then have immediate access to customer data for example and can dig up personal or other confidential information. It is therefore increasingly important to greatly increase the security measures and to shield data so that it is only legible for authorised employees. Here Chronos, with the new encryption module, offers a simple and effective safeguard, because archived contents can only be read with the suitable key and also only exclusively via the Chronos interface. With the Chronos standard software the users archive their relational databases and can thus fulfil compliance requirements in regard to retention periods and audit security. In particular the productive database will be relieved of inactive contents so that the performance increases and the storage costs drop. Last but not least it is also possible to deactivate old applications with the software, then reactivate them as required, in case legacy data is required again in the framework of the retention period.

CSP GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1991 and specialises in innovative software solutions for manufacturing companies. The company provides its customers with comprehensive advice and support in addition to the implementation and customisation of standard solutions.
